I am living here in Boise Idaho in the North Western United states and working at Improv Comedy professionally in the capital Northwestern City of Idaho.  It has been a challenge but very exciting! and I am looking forward to what the future holds.

I have been pursuing this art form for over a decade, and I love branching out and trying new things that challenge me.  Last year, I developed a solo improv show because there were many times when I would be alone, but still wanted to perform and do a show for an audience.  I had heard of another person doing one somewhere in Los Angeles, but I had never seen anyone do it.  After sitting in a friend’s apartment in North Hollywood and theorizing with some others, the possibility began to take shape.

I feel as though improv is so simple and hands-on, yet clever and inventive all at the same time….well, when done right.  The art form is almost still discovering itself.  I’d like to say I get to take part in this discovery.  I sometimes feel like a new pioneer pressing westward and this place before me is my land.  I can pass through it, or I can build on it.  It’s as if I have some sort of ownership of this art form as if it where my very own. Being in this mental state of discovery and willingness to venture, can allow one to develop a show that few have ever done, invent games that have never been performed, and play in a way that transcend language barriers.  To an improviser… this is all possible.

I have been practicing with my best efforts to produce a show that is upright and reputable.  It’s not about tripping up on perfection, but rather aiming for excellence.  Most people have seen comedians perform and can often see a bit of their own character oozing out of their performance.  This brings me to an awareness of my own character, perhaps the core of it all.  I believe the more I know myself, the more the audiences will get to see my character.  I hear people talking about doing shows that change the way people think, but if I don’t want to be anything like them, why should I listen?  Now, if there is something about them that I, myself, want to imitate, then I love the idea of changing the way people think.  That’s part of the reason why my group’s name is Recycled Minds and our motto is, “Do not conform.  Be transformed.”  But, I think I have to first ask myself if I am a man worthy of imitating.  To do that, I have to see myself with objective, honest judgment.  The more you are aware of your own identity, the more you are aware of your abilities, what you can expect from the world around you, and what you can expect to give because of all you have to offer. This is aiming for excellence.  This is being who you are designed to be.  This is a higher form of comedy.

Since I have been back in the United States, I have been performing in Boise and the Nampa-Caldwell area. While there may not be any comedy clubs, there’s still an abundance of laughter to be had, a space to perform in for audiences to enjoy, and I’m glad I’m here to help out!

Only a few short days before Heath Harmison and I head to Edinburgh, Scotland during the world’s largest performance arts festival, the Edinburgh Frindge Festival.

I am so thankful.  Remarkably, this will be my third consecutive year.  It doesn’t make sense…

What is Improv? It’s when theatricality, imagination, and ALL that is magical become one. Stated simply? There are no scripts! You may have heard of the t.v. show “Whose Line Is It Anyway”, or Drew Carey’s new “Improv-a-ganza”. Improvisational comedy is an art form that uses off the cuff imagination. I wondered how many kids read it? I thought that it was in a good place, the school office. Perhaps it was the last words read before a student would be called to the principles office. How true they are. But who believes it. And how often are we reminded of it?

I’m always fascinated with the unseen. Because feelings… as invisible as they are, we often are ruled by them. Because they are very real to us.

We often are ruled by things unseen. We sometimes are twisted and tormented by feelings, by the unseen.

We joke about “being in touch with our feelings”, and that men often are not because “they rarely have feelings”, or because we are so close to being animals… both of which are lies. Yes, it’s lie that we are animals.

We are human. We aren’t angels we aren’t monsters, we often can play they part of one or the other, and find ourselves stuck somewhere in between. Battling with who we really are… Who we want to be. Who we should be.

Often in School, and in also in “the real world” we understand who we are by the way others treat us. And what we understand about ourselves can be the farthest from the truth.

What if we decided who we are, and biased that on how we treated others. And the way we treated others was measured off something else unseen. What if each person had a high value. what if each person was actually dreamt up by God? What if they where on this earth for a unique purpose.

Would the unseen feelings be balanced by the unseen God. Would we believe our feelings, or thoughts, or voices more? Or would we believe in a God who can be clearly seen because of his Invisible qualities?

Can we believe that?

Do we have a harder time believing in a God we can’t see… or a harder time believing in a powerful creative and loving God who is jealous for us, and is the lover of our souls?

The greater God is… does He become harder to believe? All the while the worst of things about ourselves become the easiest to believe.

The pages humans have that tell us about God, say that all humans fall short the glory of God…. because we listened to a lie, and acted on it. But that is exactly why God came to us. To rescue, to save, and restore what He had in mind before the creation of the world.

Would we believe in a lie…. or would we see truth… even if it’s unseen?
